Job Summary: 

We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive individual to fill the role of Field Safety Coordinator, for our Southern California region covering Kern County to Riverside County.

This multifaceted position will be responsible for overseeing safety protocols and procedures on construction sites while also collaborating with the manager of human resources  to support our employees.

This position assists project managers, superintendents, and forepersons in inspecting, educating, and adhering to Company and OSHA health & safety and risk management policies and procedures on construction projects.

Identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions on projects that may lead to injury and/or property damage using job specific safety standards, best management practices and Company safety procedures.

This position assists with onboarding employees in the field .


 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Renew Underground Service Alert (U.S.A.) tickets and maintain U.S.A. log
  • Support the Human Resources Department with onboarding and safety, including maintaining checklists and following up as necessary.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on construction sites to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols. (OSHA/MSHA, Company policies, etc.)
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Travel is expected to be a significant portion of time, between jobsite and office locations (company vehicle is provided).
  • Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to address safety concerns and promote a culture of safety awareness.
  • Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, and Owner/contractual requirements.
  • Communicate with Superintendents, Forepersons and Craft workers in the field/crew as it relates to both good and bad safety practices that are observed.
  • Document all safety violations or unsafe conditions/activities; ensure corrective measures are immediately implemented; follow through to ensure corrections have been made.
  • Collaborate with others in the Safety Department regarding safety requirement changes and new policies.
  • Conduct/assist with weekly safety meetings for all assigned projects.
  • Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on jobsite tours; assist in preparing written appeals for safety/health violations & citations.
  • Help develop and continually improve the effectiveness of the safety department’s procedures.
  • Provide technical and administrative direction to third party safety and first aid personnel.
  • Provide administrative and technical direction and update management on all Southern California project(s) safety and health programs, procedures, and policies.
  • Promote companywide Safety Program. Serve as a role model and champion for safety and safety compliance.
  • Accommodate Company needs for duties that may fall outside of normal business hours.
  • Maintain confidentiality with all employee’s information, ensure it is shared only with those with a legitimate business need to know, and in a confidential and secure manner.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA Construction Order Regulations; Familiar with MSHA
  • Ability to evaluate construction work activities with respect to safety and loss control.
  • Ability to recognize and analyze Company trends with respect to Company accidents.
  • Promote a positive work environment and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to train and educate others.
  • Knowledge of human resources polices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Record-keeping and clear documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Education and Experience:

  • Some college (4 years preferred) or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 5 years construction safety management experience.
  • Must possess understanding of current Safety Administration, Federal, State, Local and OSHA,MSHA, HAZWOPER regulations.
  • Knowledge of human resources administration
  • Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • First Aid/CPR Training

Physical Demands:

  • Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to navigate and walk on uneven exposed raw dirt, gravel and other surfaces typically found on construction sites.
  • Negotiate work areas under construction.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, sit, talk, and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to carry on a conversation with another individual (or groups of individuals) in person and over the telephone.
  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects with the human body.

Work Environment:

  • The employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee may be exposed to:
    • moving mechanical parts
    • High precarious places
    • Fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and uneven terrain
    • The noise in these work environments is usually moderate
