Take-off Technician / Estimating Engineer
Independent Construction Company is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Take-off Technician. This position is responsible for analyzing and interpreting plans to determine quantities on construction projects. The ideal candidate is someone who is organized and possesses strong time management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively supports estimating goals and objectives through completing technical / administrative projects on time and accurately.
- Collaborate with estimators, project managers, and engineers to support consistent technical practices and administrative procedures.
- Analyze and compile take-off data to ensure quality and timely quantity take-offs.
- Interpret construction project designs and plans to calculate material quantity requirements using software (Agtek, AutoCAD, TBC, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Contributes to the operation of the estimating department through day-to-day activities.
- Checks bid proposal forms for accuracy and/or discrepancies.
- Performs clerical duties such as setting up and maintaining department files. Maintains files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures.
- Create accurate and detailed quantity take-offs and summaries for the following types of work:
- General Earthwork Projects
- Fine Grade, Rock and Pave
- Dams, Reservoirs, and Levees
- Landfills
- Drainage and Utilities
- Erosion Control
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Strengths:
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
- General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
- Strong math skills with ability to calculate mathematical extensions; read and understand engineering drawings.
- Computer savvy with ability to learn estimating software programs, such as: AutoCad, Agtek, Bluebeam, etc.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to create accurate and detailed reports.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Thrives in fast paced, fun, competitive work environment.
- Attention to detail while productively meeting goals.
- Option to participate in the building of GPS models for Grade Control machines.
- Option to participate in drone surveying.
Education/Work Experience:
- Some college (4 years preferred) or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
- Construction and advanced computer experience preferred.
- Minimum 1 – 2 years of construction estimating support, engineering, or similar experience.

Additional Information:
- This is a full-time, salaried position.
- Company conducts post-offer, pre-employment drug screening and Motor Vehicle Report.
- Valid & Current CA Driver’s License & Clean Motor Vehicle Report
- 21 years of age as required by insurance to drive
- Physical requirements include the following:
- Ability to lift and carry 10-50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, finger, grasp, write, and perform repetitive motions.
- Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects with the human body.
- Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to carry on a conversation with another individual (or groups of individuals) in person and over the telephone.
- Visual ability sufficient to read and produce printed material and information displayed on a computer screen.
- Ability to sit, stand, drive, walk for 2-10 hrs per day
Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 – Full Time
